History
As a non-denominational, co-ed Christian a cappella group, Against the Current aspires to serve God on the campus of Boston College in conjunction with the campus fellowships, churches, and other organizations. It began with Jihoon Shin ('99), Ali Graham ('99), and Ruth Johnson ('00) who wanted to form a group for the purpose of bringing the Gospel to the Boston College community through a capella music. After spreading word through campus fellowships, the group was finally formed towards the end of the fall semester in 1998. Vision Against the Current's name is derived from the book of Romans: "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect" (Romans 12:2). With God as our foundation, ATC will utilize music and our personal lives as tools to embody Christ to each other, to the BC and greater Boston communities, and to the world. Our repertoire consists of a blend of pop music and contemporary Christian songsthat relate to one cohesive theme each semester. We sing music with a message and never fail to have fun bringing glory to God's kingdom. |
