A non-denominational, co-ed Christian a cappella group, Against the Current aspires to serve God on the campus of Boston College in conjunction with the campus fellowships, churches, and other organizations. It began with Jihoon Shin ('99), Ali Graham ('99), and Ruth Johnson ('00) who wanted to form a group for the purpose of bringing the Gospel to the Boston College community through a capella music. After spreading word through campus fellowships, the group was finally formed towards the end of the fall semester in 1998.
Against the Current's name is derived from the following passage in the book of Romans:
"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's Will is - His good, pleasing, and perfect Will."
With God as our foundation, ATC will utilize music and our personal lives as tools to embody Christ to each other, to the BC and greater Boston communities, and to the world.
